An Educational Excursion to Mandu
There are many places of historical importance scattered throughout India. In some places the
past is so much a part of the present that you can feel yourself transported into the bygone era.
Keeping this point in mind, an educational excursion was arranged for the students of Queens’ College under the able guidance of expert and talented teachers on July 17th and 18th ,2015 for the students from classes VI TO VIII. They were also provided with worksheets which they had to complete during this excursion. The worksheet was prepared by Ms.Sabina Francis. The teachers who were on duty for the excursion were- Incharge Mr. Piyush Dubey and Ms.Ankita Jain. Teachers were Ms.Sabina Francis, Ms. Jailaxmi Nair ,Ms.Ranjeeta Sahu, Mr. Sunil Rathore , Ms.Chetna Mathur, Ms.Shilpa Yeole, Ms. Gayatri Khichi and Ms.Priyanka Chouhan.
Journey started from Queens’ Campus at 9:30 a.m. We are grateful to the management as one gunman and four didis were also provided by the management for security of the students. We are also grateful to our Principal Mr.Shyam Agrawal and Vice-Principal Ms. Moumita Chatterjee for giving the students such a wonderful exposure.
The weather was very pleasant on July 17 as we started our journey. The students were too excited about this journey. On the way snacks were provided. By 12:30 pm we all reached Roopmati Hotel and Malwa Retreat. We had our lunch there. After lunch we took some rest. By 2 O’ Clock we all went for sightseeing.
The deserted city of MANDU is perched on the Vindhya Mountains, one of India’s most romantic and picturesque sites. Within its winding parapet walls are palaces, mosques, lakes and pleasure pavilions built between 1401 and 1529 by the Sultans of Malwa, who referred to it as Shadiabad, “THE CITY OF JOY ”.Mandu city is spread over an area of 23 sq km but its monuments are clustered into two groups- The Royal Enclave and the Village Group.
The weather was very crisp with a cool breeze and it was a perfect time to explore the monuments. We stopped at KakraKho which had beautiful scenic beauty. There were lot of baobab trees. The tree gets leaves only in the rainy season and is known as “KhusraniImli”.We saw Jami Masjid, AsarfiMahal, Ram Mandir,ShivMandir and Lohari caves. Lohari Caves had beautiful natural caves and sun set point. All students were busy in photography. Than we returned to Hotel Roopmati and had wonderful snacks. After this we rested for some time and in the evening we all gathered in the green campus of Roopmati hotel for cultural show,Quiz and DJ Party. First the management of Roopmati Hotel arranged for folk dance by the tribals which was enjoyed by each and everyone and after sometime the students and teachers also joined them.The quiz was conducted by Ms. Sabina Francis.
Next day in the early morning we visited Roopmati Pavilion, BajBahadur Palace, Echo point. Roopmati Pavilion was one of the best and beautiful monuments in Mandu. After breakfast we visited JahazMahal which is situated between two lakes MunjTalab and KapurTalab and HindolaMahal. Each and every student was so curious to find out each and every queries related to worksheet and the guides were helping them out.
Hotel Roopmati’s Incharge Mr. Parth had given us full co-operation to make this excursion a memorable one. The treat given by Mr. Parth was marvellous. All the delicacies served were mouth watering. The students were given the chance to buy few things to make this excursion a memorable one and will remain in our memory throughout. The students really were overjoyed as each and everyone got an opportunity to do lot of photography and explore the nature. Thanks to our Vice Principal Ms. Moumita Chatterjee for giving them this privilege. By 3:00 pm we started our journey back to Indore and by 6:00 pm we were back to Queens’ College.
